| モリスが書いた物語り『ユートピアだより』を読んで搾取も差別もない社会をなんとしても目にしたかったモリスの想いに共感。 芸術家としてすでに有名だったモリスが、なぜ当時危険思想視されていた社会主義をめざしたのか…それを確かめようと、50代にして英国ラフバラ（Loughborough）大学・博士課程の研究生となり、モリスの思想に造詣が深い指導教官のもと、４年あまりを研究に没頭。 無事終了した学位論文のタイトルは『The Relavance of William Morris's Socialism』 （ウィリアム・モリスの社会主義、その現代的意義） PhD、ウィリアム・モリス協会終身会員 About Machiko Shiroshita (nom de plume) Read Morris's News from Nowhere, she was greately moved by his strong desire to see equal an d fair society. The soicety Morris depicted was also her dream society in a way, although hers was more Japanese style. Why did Morris, already an achieved artist, approach socialism which was regarded quite a dangerous idea at that time? -- in order to study this, she went to Loughborough University, Britain, in her fifities. Under the supervision of now professer Ruth Kinna with her deep knowledge of Morris's political thought, she spent about four years as a research student.
